Site Study

Before anything is planted, a garden is read: its light, its soil, what already grows there. From your photographs, measurements and answers, I read the conditions of your site and tell you where to begin.

What it is•
  • A reading of your soil, hours of light, root competition and the light window through the seasons
  • The area divided into its zones (A, B, C…)
  • The kind of planting each zone can carry
  • Which of my planting plans suits each zone, with the substitutions it needs
  • The order of work and how to prepare the ground
  • One or two changes that will return the most
What it is not•
  • Not a plant list or a shopping list
  • No placement, quantities or spacing: those are in the planting plans
  • Not a drawn design: that is a border or the whole garden
  • Not a site visit: it is prepared from your photographs, measurements and questionnaire
